Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., responded to a slate of accusations that have surfaced against her online originating from a Democrat PAC called American Muckrakers. The PAC has primarily alleged that Boebert was a “paid escort” in the past and that she had previously undergone two abortion procedures.
“I will not let these false smears from left wing political operatives go unanswered,” Boebert wrote on Twitter. “The law on this type of defamation is clear and this conduct will be subject to civil and criminal penalties.”
According to a report from Fox News, Boebert’s lawyer, Jonathan Anderson, sent a letter to American Muckrackers, stating the following:
“We have irrefutable evidence that each one of these statements is patently false. You knew this though. Muckrakers published these outlandish statements knowing they were fabricated but you likely operated under the inaccurate assumption that publishing false statements against a public figure would not create legal liability.”
Boebert additionally told the Washington Examiner, “For them to go after me in this manner is absolutely sexist and disgusting, and this is what people hate about politics. They hate the lies and they hate the personal destruction.”
Perhaps unsurprisingly, American Muckrackers PAC is the same organization that initially broke numerous sensationalist stories about Rep. Madison Cawthorn, R-N.C., before his primary midterm election in May.
Fox News reported that the PAC originally shared three alleged photos of a woman, who they claim is Boebert, to support their claim that she was an escort for SugarDaddyMeet.Com. However, the outlet noted that one of the photos is from the profile of a woman named Melissa Carone.
Boebert’s attorney continued in his letter to the American Muckrakers PAC, “In addition to the civil defamation claims that will be filed, Muckrakers’ actions are criminally liable. Colorado statute expressly prohibits the circulation of ‘knowingly or recklessly’ false information meant to influence an election.”
