Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., is calling for Dr. Anthony Fauci to be held “accountable” for his alleged role in funding gain-of-function research conducted at the Wuhan Virology Lab, a lab that the Department of Energy suspects as being the origin of the coronavirus pandemic.

In a political ad obtained by the Washington Examiner, Greene—who is a special COVID Committee member— said that “Dr. Fauci needs to be held accountable.”

She added: “He has a lot of answers to give. He needs to stop lying. There needs to be an investigation and China needs to pay.”

Fauci, who recently retired as the chief White House medical advisor and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has faced allegations that his agency-funded gain-of-function research (gain-of-function refers to a procedure by which strains of virus present in animals are manipulated to transmit to humans) at China’s Wuhan Virology Lab.

During explosive Senate hearings in 2021, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., accused Dr. Fauci of knowingly funding gain-of-function research, an accusation that Fauci vehemently denied.

Paul asked Fauci, “Will you today finally take some responsibility for funding gain of function research in Wuhan?”

To which Fauci fired back: “Senator, with all due respect, I disagree with so many of the things that you’ve said. Gain of function is a very nebulous term that outside parties have worked on assigning a more precise definition.”

Paul then asked Fauci if he had lied under oath about the gain-of-function funding. Fauci responded by saying that Sen. Paul “didn’t know what he was talking about.”

The senator asked, “Knowing that it is a crime to lie to Congress, do you wish to retract your statement of May 11 where you claim that the NIH never funded gain-of-function research in Wuhan?”

Fauci responded to Paul, saying, “I have never lied before the Congress, and I do not retract that statement.”

Rep. Greene concluded the ad, by saying, “He was very involved in this gain of function research. He was involved in the grants that went to a third party that paid for it.” She added: “Dr. Fauci is responsible for all of this. He created the gain of function. He gave it to China. They created the bioweapon, which is COVID-19. And it broke the world.”
