On Thursday, a third straight day of voting for the next Speaker of the House commenced, locking Republicans into an intense stalemate as the chief nominated candidate, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., lost his seventh consecutive ballot.

Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., who has unflinchingly led the charge against electing McCarthy, threw a wrench into the afternoon by standing and nominating President Donald John Trump as the next Speaker of the House.

As reported by RSBN, Gaetz is one of 20 Republicans in the House who are blocking McCarthy’s confirmation as House Speaker, despite President Trump’s encouragement for Republicans to “TAKE THE VICTORY AND RUN!!!”

In an interview with Fox News, Gaetz explained that the deadlock in the House election would only end in one of two ways: “…Either Kevin bows out…Or he essentially has to…put on a straightjacket with a rules package that doesn’t allow a lot of discretion for the Speaker.”

Since leaving office in 2021, President Trump’s name has been floated by some as a potential Speaker of the House, but his recent move to launch a 2024 presidential candidacy essentially makes Gaetz’s nomination null and void.

This week, Trump pointed out that a potential Republican victory today for the House Speakership would be “BIGGER & MORE IMPORTANT than if it were done the more traditional way…”

He also warned the GOP against turning a “GREAT TRIUMPH INTO A GIANT & EMBARASSING DEFEAT.”

However, Gaetz and the other 19 Republicans blocking the vote have insisted that the House needs newer, fresher leadership. Per RSBN, Gaetz previously commented that he was “ready to vote all night, all week, all month, and never for that person.”

“This ‘event’ will end up making the Republican Party STRONGER and more UNITED than ever before,” Trump remarked on Wednesday. “OUR NATION IS AT STAKE. STAY TUNED and, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
