Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., is on a mission to “safeguard election integrity.”
On Thursday, she tweeted news that she has introduced the DC Voter ID Act which “will make it mandatory to provide a photo ID when voting in DC elections and ensure only American citizens are casting ballots.”
Also known as the American Confidence in Elections: District of Columbia Voter Identification Act, the legislation amends the Help America Vote Act of 2002 with a provision to require proof that voters are American citizens.
This would affect all voters. Under this new act, ballots would not be issued for those voting in person or by other means unless proper proof of citizenship has been offered.
In order to ensure that all D.C. voters can exercise their right to participate in the democratic process, the bill also includes a provision to issue free government-accepted IDs for those who are unable to afford the fees required to obtain proper identification.
The mayor will be tasked with creating a government agency to offer these free IDs and ensure that only American citizens receive them.
In addition, alternate ID requirement options will be made available to anyone who is unable to obtain standard government identification due to religious beliefs.
Finally, the District of Columbia’s chief election official is expected to oversee “poll books” that catalog every voter’s photo identification and name to better secure election integrity.
The sole purpose of these poll book photos will be to ensure that voters are American citizens and may not be utilized for any other purpose.
Greene has been a continued supporter of election integrity, per RSBN. Now she is fighting to uphold the American value that “Only American citizens should be voting in American elections!”
