Gov. Kristi Noem, R-S.D., went to bat for President Donald Trump this week during an interview on Fox News, where she highlighted the actions of election officers and a state court that have stripped the president’s name from their states’ 2024 ballots.
“Look at what happened in these two states in our country, where the secretaries of state, the chief election officers, broke the Constitution to remove Donald Trump off the ballot,” she said.
In Colorado, the State Supreme Court ruled in late December that Trump’s name could not appear on their 2024 election ballot due to his alleged involvement in the “insurrection” of Jan. 6, 2021, utilizing an argument based on the Fourteenth Amendment. According to The Washington Post, Trump appealed the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Further, in Maine, Democrat Secretary of State Shenna Bellows decided shortly after Colorado’s court ruling that she would strip Trump’s name off her state’s ballot as well, based on the Fourteenth Amendment “insurrection” clause argument. Per the Associated Press, Trump is also appealing this decision in a Maine Superior Court.
Gov. Noem has been one of President Trump’s staunchest allies. She has endorsed his presidential candidacy for reelection, and on Wednesday night, she rallied for the president in Iowa, drumming up support among prospective caucus-goers in Sioux City, Iowa.
She remarked of ongoing Democrat attempts to take Trump’s name off the ballot in 2024, “The Democrats will do anything to win. They don’t care about the Constitution. They don’t care about law and order. They don’t care about our election laws. We DO. We have integrity. We’re going to use this system to our highest performance level and use it with excellence so that we can win.”
