New York City Democratic Mayor Eric Adams is reportedly meeting with President Donald Trump in Mar-a-Lago on Friday ahead of inauguration weekend.

Fabian Levy, the mayor’s spokesman, said Adams believes that meeting with Trump will benefit the future of the city.

“Mayor Adams has made quite clear his willingness to work with President-elect Trump and his incoming administration on behalf of New Yorkers — and that partnership with the federal government is critical to New York City’s success,” Levy told Politico.

“The mayor looks forward to having a productive conversation with the incoming president on how we can move our city and country forward,” he added.

Some Democrats blasted the announcement of the meeting, questioning whether Adams is seeking to help New Yorkers or seek help in his own corruption battle.

“Who is this meeting for, New Yorkers or Eric Adams?” former City Comptroller Scott Stringer, who is challenging Adams in the Democratic primary, asked on X. “Our city has too many problems right now for us to worry about if he’s fighting for New Yorkers or a hypothetical pardon for himself.”

Adams previously committed to working with Trump’s incoming border czar Tom Homan after meeting with him last month.

The mayor addressed the media following the meeting, emphasizing the 500,000 children who have entered the U.S. and cannot be found.

“What I’ve learned also from sitting down with [Homan] and a representative from the Biden administration that was there in the meeting as well, we have 500,000 children who have sponsors in this country that we can’t find. We can’t find them. We don’t know if they’re doing child labor. We don’t know if they’re doing sex crimes. We don’t know if they’ve been exploited. 500,000 children,” Adams said.

While Adams plans to cooperate to apprehend and deport migrant criminals fully, he made a distinction concerning other immigrants in the city.

“We’re going to protect the rights of immigrants in the city that are hard-working, giving back to the city in a real way. We’re not going to be a safe haven for those who commit repeated violent crimes,” Adams stated.
