Outgoing Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard provided an update this week about her husband Abraham’s battle with bone cancer.

“My husband Abraham was diagnosed with a very rare sacral chordoma,” she wrote on X. “The surgery to remove bone and surrounding tissue lasted almost seven hours and was successful.”

Gabbard said that her husband had a “rough night but is finally home resting.”

“Now recovery begins,” she continued. “We’re so grateful for the outpouring of prayers and kind messages from all of you. Our hearts are full.”

Earlier this week, Gabbard had shared on social media that her husband was preparing to head into surgery, as part of his treatment against the cancer.

Gabbard’s role with the Trump administration is set to end on June 30. In her resignation letter in May, she revealed that her position had been a “profound honor,” but noted that she would be resigning, citing her husband’s difficult bone cancer diagnosis.

“At this time, I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle,” she said at the time.

Her departure is one that the Trump administration seems to be feeling deeply. President Trump praised Gabbard at a recent Cabinet meeting, highlighting her work declassifying many documents and for investigating the “Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax” perpetrated during the president’s first term.

“Tulsi, we’re praying for you and for your husband,” the president said. “Her husband’s not feeling great, but he’s going to feel great soon. You’re going to get him better, and he’s a wonderful guy.”

President Trump has since appointed Federal Housing Finance Agency and Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac Chairman William J. Pulte to step in as acting director of national intelligence upon Gabbard’s departure. It is unclear if he will remain in the role permanently and thus require a mandatory Senate confirmation vote.
