A report released by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Tuesday showed a total of 66,463 arrests of illegal aliens since President Donald Trump returned to the White House.
The arrest rate has been approximately 700 per day during the first 100 days of the Trump presidency. ICE also reported that three out of four arrests were criminal illegal aliens, including known gang members. Of those arrested, 65,682 have been deported, with the agency focused on the most dangerous and violent criminals.
ICE Acting Director Todd M. Lyons issued a statement emphasizing the agency’s focus on public safety in its approach to arrests and deportations.
“The brave men and women of ICE protect our families, friends and neighbors by removing public safety and national security threats from our communities,” Lyons said. “During President Trump’s first 100 days, ICE alone has arrested over 65,000 illegal aliens — including 2,288 gang members from Tren de Aragua, MS-13, 18th Street and other gangs. Additionally, 1,329 were accused or convicted of sex offenses, and 498 were accused or convicted of murder.”
ICE has received significant assistance through state and local law enforcement agencies through the use of the 287(g) program. The program enables local agencies to assist with the enforcement of immigration law, including the identification of removable aliens who have pending criminal charges.
Lyons credited the use of tools such as the 287(g) program for enabling the agency to achieve its objectives thus far under the Trump administration.
“We’re just 100 days into this administration and thanks to President Trump and Secretary Noem, ICE is using every tool at its disposal to enforce our country’s immigration laws and protect our communities,” Lyons said.
