Former Trump Advisor Peter Navarro will likely begin serving out a four-month prison sentence next week after being convicted on two counts related to defiance of a congressional subpoena issued by the Jan. 6 Select Committee.

According to the DOJ, Navarro was previously sentenced to four months in prison in January 2024, after pleading not guilty. “In addition to the prison sentence, the Honorable Amit P. Mehta, who presided over the trial and sentencing, ordered Navarro to pay a fine of $9,500,” the DOJ added.

In 2022, Navarro pleaded not guilty to the charges levied against him. As reported by RSBN, Navarro was arrested at an airport in Washington, D.C., after dodging a Jan. 6 Committee subpoena for both his personal testimony and for requested documents.

He told the press that his arrest “violated the Constitution.”

According to the National Review, Navarro is scheduled to begin serving out his prison sentence on March 19 at a federal prison in Miami at 2:00 p.m. The outlet reported that Navarro is hoping that a federal appeals court will stay his sentence upon an attempt to overturn his conviction.

Navarro’s fight with the courts has been tense at times. In February, a federal judge stated that he would be held in contempt of court if he declined to hand over requested presidential records to NARA, Politico revealed.

They reported, “Kollar-Kotelly, an appointee of President Bill Clinton, is giving Navarro until March 21 to review 600 records to determine whether additional government files are among them — or else face a potential contempt citation.”

Navarro is not the only one convicted for failing to comply with a congressional subpoena from the Jan. 6 Committee. Steve Bannon, also a former Trump advisor, was convicted in 2022 and sentenced to four months in prison, like Navarro.

However, his sentence has been temporarily stayed pending appeal.
