A mainstream poll has found that most Americans do not support the indictment of President Donald Trump, lending further strength to the argument that the 45th president’s legal battles are politically motivated in the face of his 2024 campaign.
An ABC News poll has found that 55 percent of those surveyed overall do not support the indictment of President Donald Trump, while 32 percent actively oppose the legal move from the Manhattan district attorney’s office.
Per Newsmax, the poll also found that while 88 percent of Democrats indicated support for the indictment, 62 percent of Republicans did not.
Interestingly, primary polling has found that in the wake of the indictment news, President Trump’s support among Republicans has swelled to unprecedented levels.
For example, Trafalgar found that Trump has a massive 33-point lead in a 2024 primary battle with 56 percent of support, while potential political rival Governor Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., scored 23 percent. Trump also held a big lead in a YouGov poll, garnering 52 percent of support against DeSantis’s 21 percent.
McLaughlin & Associates also found that President Trump had 51 percent of support in a 2024 primary while DeSantis netted 21 percent.
President Donald Trump additionally shared findings on Truth Social from Premise Data, which found that in a head-to-head matchup against Joe Biden, he now held a 6-point lead (47 percent to Biden’s 41 percent).
In fact, the nationwide support for President Trump has only strengthened since the indictment news broke last week. Axios reported that Trump has raised over $5 million since last Thursday. More than $4 million of that money was raised in the first 24 hours following the indictment.
The Trump campaign also noted that 25 percent of the first $4 million came from first-time donors to the campaign.
“With an average contribution of only $34, President Trump’s 2024 campaign is funded by an unmatched coalition of hardworking patriots who are fed up with special interest donors like Soros spending billions of dollars to influence our elections,” the campaign stated.
