Poll: Nearly 20% of Democrats think the 2020 election should be overturned

A surprising number of Democrats, 20%, think that the results of the 2020 presidential election should be overturned, according to a Morning Consult/Politico poll.

Overall, the October poll found that 35 percent of voters polled agreed that President Donald Trump was the rightful winner of the November election.

60 percent of Republicans surveyed indicated that the election results should definitely or probably be overturned, compared to a much smaller 30 percent that said that they should probably not or definitely not be overturned. 10 percent of respondents were undecided.

16 percent of Democrats and 27 percent of independents said that the election results should be overturned.

More than 94 percent of Democrats supported Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020. According to Morning Consult/Politico, 83 percent of Democrats support Biden nearly one year after last year’s presidential election, a sharp decrease in support.

Although Biden received 94 percent of the Democrat vote in 2020, he has suffered a sharp drop in support in his own party. According to exit polls from last year’s election, only five percent of Democrats voted against Biden. However, 11 percent more Democrats have stopped supporting him since he took office more than nine months ago, according to the Morning Consult/Politico poll.

Biden, who allegedly received the most votes for any candidate in American history (81 million), has lost support from all demographics since taking office. Morning Consult/Politico reported that 46 percent of Americans approve of Biden, while 51 percent did not.

However, Biden’s approval rating has been much lower according to various other pollsters. A Quinnipiac poll from earlier this month reported that 40 percent of registered voters approved of Biden, while 51 percent disapproved. According to a Grinnell/Selzer poll, only 37 percent of Americans viewed Biden favorably, while 50 percent did not.

Biden and Congressional Democrats will struggle to maintain control on Capitol Hill. Democrat U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democrat Sen. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer are in danger of losing their majority in the House and Senate.

Amid Biden’s sinking approval, Democrats will likely have trouble maintaining their majorities in Congress in the 2022 midterm elections next year. Republicans need to flip just five seats to take control of the House of Representatives, and one seat to take control of the Senate. In nearly every midterm election, the opposite political party to that of the president makes substantial gains in Congress.

Amid the supply shortage, record high inflation, vaccine mandates, a border crisis, and low approval ratings, Congressional Democrats will likely lose their majority, and Biden will likely become a lame duck ahead of the 2024 presidential race.
