President Donald Trump has proposed attaching the SAVE America Act – key election integrity legislation – to a proposed Pentagon budget reconciliation bill, teeing up another potential battle of the bills in Congress.
“I am hereby calling on Republicans in Congress to IMMEDIATELY advance and pass the forthcoming $350 Billion Reconciliation Bill (Recon 3.0) — which, at the request of our Great Department of War — will include THE SAVE AMERICA ACT as well,” the president said in a statement this week.
He added, “No games, no delays, and no weak compromises! Do this ASAP.”
This comes after Republicans successfully passed a $70 billion immigration enforcement bill using technical reconciliation procedures over the past week. The president signed the bill into law on Wednesday following its passage in the U.S. House.
Despite at least two major attempts by Republicans in the Senate last week to attach the SAVE America Act to a reconciliation package, all efforts failed due mostly to strict budgetary rules.
The SAVE America Act has been unable to pass through the U.S. Senate, due to the ironclad filibuster. Attaching the election integrity legislation to a reconciliation bill is a workaround that dodges the needed 60-vote threshold to get it through the Senate. Budget reconciliation legislation only requires a simple majority vote.
The president’s $350 billion defense spending request comes amid the United States’ war with Iran, which has escalated in recent days as both nations have traded attacks.
“Recon 3.0 is the ONLY path to the full $1.5 TRILLION DOLLAR Military Budget our Warriors need in order to build THE ARSENAL OF FREEDOM,” President Trump said in his statement.
He continued, “We will defend the Homeland with the Golden Dome, launch the unstoppable Golden Fleet, dominate the skies with the F-47 and B-21, supercharge our ammunition stockpiles, and achieve total Space Force and Drone Dominance!”
The president additionally argued that attaching the SAVE America Act to the budget bill would protect the voting rights of all Americans. “Our Warriors protect our most Sacred Rights, and Voting is at the top. Time to defend that Right for every American!” he said.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth noted of the president’s budgetary request, “Thank you Mr. President. The @DeptofWar will make this happen!”
