President Trump visited New Orleans on Monday to attend a fundraiser hosted by a prominent Louisiana business owner, where he spent nearly two hours visiting with guests.
The private event was held at the home of Boysie Bollinger in Uptown New Orleans, just three days before the first presidential debate. The event was successful and brought in $5 million for his presidential campaign.
Supporters of the 45th president lined the streets of St. Charles Avenue, holding signs and flags while awaiting his motorcade. A small crowd of anti-Trump protestors also carried signs opposing Trump’s visit.
The event came just days after May’s fundraising totals were released, which showed that Trump’s campaign brought in $56 million more than Biden’s, outraising him for the second consecutive month.
Recent polling coincides with Trump’s fundraising successes, with one particularly consequential poll showing the 45th president leading in seven battleground states.
Control of the upper chamber could also shift to Republicans if they successfully ride the coattails of President Trump in November.
It is unclear if Thursday’s debate will shift voters in one direction or the other, but politically involved Americans are most certainly looking forward to the head-to-head matchup. Trump has also said that his choice for vice president will be in attendance, and it is likely that several on the shortlist will be there to support him.
