President Trump has announced a new date for a highly anticipated meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. In a Truth Social post on Wednesday, Trump revealed that after delays related to the conflict in Iran, the meeting between the two world leaders has been rescheduled for May.

“My meeting with the Highly Respected President of China, President Xi Jinping, which was originally postponed due to our Military operation in Iran, has been rescheduled, and will take place in Beijing on May 14th and 15th,” President Trump said.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the rescheduled meeting to reporters during a briefing on Wednesday. The meeting between President Trump and President Xi was originally scheduled to take place on March 31-April 2, but was postponed after the U.S. and Israel commenced strikes against Iran at the end of February. Leavitt indicated President Xi was cooperative with the rescheduling and understood the need for President Trump to postpone during combat operations in Iran.

The last in-person meeting between President Trump and President Xi occurred in October 2025. President Trump has described the upcoming meeting as an opportunity for a reset between China and the U.S. The two leaders are expected to discuss negotiations on major diplomatic and economic issues, including investments, sanctions and tariffs between the two nations.

President Trump also revealed that he and First Lady Melania Trump will host the Chinese President in Washington, D.C., later this year.

“First Lady Melania and I will also host President Xi and Madame Peng for a reciprocal visit in Washington, D.C., at a later date, this year,” President Trump said. “Our Representatives are finalizing preparations for these Historic Visits.”

President Trump has indicated that he looks forward to the meeting and describes his history with President Xi positively, saying the two have a good relationship.

“I look very much forward to spending time with President Xi in what will be, I am sure, a Monumental Event. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” President Trump said.
