President Donald Trump announced that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will resign from his post.

The president issued well-wishes towards Starmer, but claimed that the prime minister’s energy and immigration policies were a major failure.

“Keir Starmer will resign as Prime Minister of The United Kingdom,” he wrote Sunday in a post to Truth Social. “He failed badly on two very important subjects- IMMIGRATION AND ENERGY (OPEN NORTH SEA OIL!). I wish him well!”

Starmer, the leader of the leftist Labour Party, did not break the news of his resignation until Monday morning, where he made the announcement outside of his residence.

“Every decision I’ve taken has been about putting the country I love first. That is why I will resign as leader of the Labour Party. I have spoken to his majesty the king this morning to inform him of my decision,” he said.

Starmer said he would remain caretaker prime minister until Labour party members chose a new leader.

Despite the U.S. president breaking the news of Starmer’s resignation, the prime minister only shared a message on X on Sunday commemorating Father’s Day.

“Being a dad is my greatest joy,” he wrote. “Today, I’m thinking about my dad, and the father I am to my children because of him. Happy Father’s Day.”

Starmer’s resignation comes amid recent turmoil in Britain’s ruling party after Labour members lost roughly 1,500 council seats and control of more than 25 councils in local elections in May, Fox News reported.

Meanwhile, Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party in Labour strongholds, and Green Party inroads in urban areas, made significant gains.
