President Donald Trump blasted the U.S. Supreme Court on Sunday, calling it a “weaponized and unjust political organization” in a social media post responding to the court’s recent ruling striking down his administration’s tariffs.
In a lengthy message on Truth Social, the president repeated his objections to last month’s decision invalidating what he had called his “Liberation Day” tariffs, a central part of his trade agenda.
“Our Country was unnecessarily RANSACKED by the United States Supreme Court, which has become little more than a weaponized and unjust Political Organization,” he wrote. “The sad thing is, they will only get worse.”
President Trump added that he believes the court is failing to fulfill the role envisioned by the nation’s founders.
“This completely inept and embarrassing Court was not what the Supreme Court of the United States was set up by our wonderful Founders to be,” he continued. “They are hurting our Country, and will continue to do so.”
The president also acknowledged that his remarks could bring criticism but said he believed it was necessary to speak out.
“This statement about the United States Supreme Court will cause me nothing but problems in the future, but I feel it is my obligation to speak the TRUTH,” Trump added.
The comments follow a February decision in which the court struck down tariffs President Trump had imposed as part of a broader effort to reshape U.S. trade policy.
The ruling drew particular attention because two conservative justices nominated by President Trump, Amy Coney Barrett and Neil Gorsuch, joined the majority that rejected the tariffs. The president previously criticized the justices after the decision, calling their votes disappointing and accusing the court of undermining his economic agenda.
In his latest post, President Trump again suggested that some conservative justices were attempting to demonstrate independence through their rulings.
“They go out of their way, with bad and wrongful rulings and intentions, to prove how ‘honest,’ ‘independent,’ and ‘legitimate’ they are,” he wrote.
