President Donald Trump on Tuesday called for jail sentences for those involved in the disruption of a church service in Minnesota, hours after a senior Justice Department official said prosecutors are seeking to bring charges against those responsible.
“Just watched footage of the Church Raid in Minnesota by the agitators and insurrectionists,” the president wrote early Tuesday on Truth Social. “These people are professionals!
“No person acts the way they act. They are highly trained to scream, rant, and rave, like lunatics, in a certain manner, just like they are doing.
“They are troublemakers who should be thrown in jail, or thrown out of the Country.”
President Trump also called for investigations into Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., saying both should face scrutiny over the incident.
“The first to go should be Walz, and Fake Sleazebag, Ilhan Omar, who is supposedly worth over $30 Million Dollars, even though she’s never had anything but a Government job,” the president wrote. “Investigate these Corrupt Politicians, and do it now!”
Earlier Monday, Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon said the Justice Department is moving to prosecute those involved in the church disruption, which forced congregants, including children, to flee.
“The people who did this made a big, big mistake — whoever they are,” Dhillon said during an appearance on Newsmax’s “Wake Up America.” “We are investigating exactly who they are, who coordinated with them, who paid for it, and who was there. And this will be met with the full force of the United States Department of Justice, as the attorney general has directed.”
Dozens of protesters entered the Cities Church sanctuary midway through the service, according to congregants. The group believed one of the church’s pastors serves as the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s St. Paul field office.
Attorney General Pam Bondi said she spoke with the pastor and confirmed the Justice Department would investigate.
“I just spoke to the Pastor in Minnesota whose church was targeted. Attacks against law enforcement and the intimidation of Christians are being met with the full force of federal law,” Bondi said in a statement.
