President Donald Trump on Wednesday said Iran had effectively undergone a “regime change” and indicated the United States would pursue negotiations with Tehran on nuclear limits, sanctions relief and long-term peace, hours after a fragile ceasefire took hold.
In a post on Truth Social, the president described a shift in Iran’s leadership posture and suggested Washington would work with what he called a more cooperative government following weeks of conflict.
“The United States will work closely with Iran, which we have determined has gone through what will be a very productive Regime Change! There will be no enrichment of Uranium, and the United States will, working with Iran, dig up and remove all of the deeply buried (B-2 Bombers) Nuclear ‘Dust,’” he wrote.
“It is now, and has been, under very exacting Satellite Surveillance (Space Force!). Nothing has been touched from the date of attack. We are, and will be, talking Tariff and Sanctions relief with Iran. Many of the 15 points have already been agreed to. Thank you for your attention to this matter,” the president added.
The comments came after the United States and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire brokered in part by Pakistan, pausing a war that has disrupted global energy markets and raised fears of broader regional escalation.
President Trump referred to the development as a turning point, saying the U.S. had already met its military objectives and was “very far along” in reaching a broader agreement with Iran.
While the president asserted that Iran had undergone internal change, Tehran has not publicly confirmed any formal shift in its governing structure. Analysts have noted that both sides are attempting to claim strategic success as negotiations begin.
The ceasefire agreement is contingent on Iran allowing safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route that carries roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply.
President Trump’s remarks suggest the administration will now focus on diplomatic efforts, including limiting Iran’s nuclear capabilities and easing sanctions in exchange for cooperation.
Despite the pause in fighting, officials caution the truce remains fragile, with key issues unresolved and the potential for renewed conflict if talks break down.
