President Donald Trump on Thursday sharply criticized New York City Democratic Mayor Zohran Mamdani, accusing him of mismanaging the city and renewing a threat to limit federal funding.

“Sadly, Mayor Mamdani is DESTROYING New York! It has no chance! The United States of America should not contribute to its failure. It will only get WORSE. The TAX, TAX, TAX Policies are SO WRONG. People are fleeing. They must change their ways, AND FAST,” President Trump wrote.

“History has proven, THIS ‘STUFF’ JUST DOESN’T WORK. Thank you for your attention to this matter! ” he added.

Mamdani, who took office Jan. 1 as the city’s first Muslim mayor, has proposed a fiscal plan that includes higher taxes on corporations and top earners to fund initiatives such as free bus service, universal child care and expanded affordable housing.

City officials have outlined a revised proposal expected to raise about $1.75 billion annually through business taxes, though the plan requires approval from the state legislature in Albany.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has expressed opposition to broad-based increases in corporate and income taxes, while supporting alternative measures, such as a tax on high-value second homes.

The president had previously warned ahead of the 2025 mayoral election that federal funding for New York City could be reduced if Mamdani were elected.

“If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home, because of the fact that, as a Communist, this once great City has ZERO chance of success, or even survival! It can only get worse with a Communist at the helm, and I don’t want to send, as President, good money after bad,” President Trump wrote at the time.

“It is my obligation to run the Nation, and it is my strong conviction that New York City will be a Complete and Total Economic and Social Disaster should Mamdani win. His principles have been tested for over a thousand years, and never once have they been successful. I would much rather see a Democrat, who has had a Record of Success, WIN, than a Communist with no experience and a Record of COMPLETE AND TOTAL FAILURE,” he continued.
