Former President Donald Trump, currently facing a non-jury civil trial in New York, has labeled the proceedings as a “weaponization of justice” and accused the trial of being a form of “election interference.”

According to Fox News, the trial, brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James, alleges financial misstatements and fraud by President Trump and his businesses.

Reacting to testimony from a defense expert witness, Fox News reported that NYU accounting professor Eli Bartov found no evidence of accounting fraud.

President Trump emphasized Bartov’s credibility, stating he is a “highly respected man.” The 45th president also asserted that the case is politically motivated, describing it as a “political witch hunt” and “election interference.” He argued that the case should never have been brought against him and called for its conclusion.

Margo Martin, Deputy Director of Communications for President Trump, posted on X the following statement from President Trump, “I’m sitting in a courthouse instead of being in Iowa where I should be, even though I’m leading by about 40 points.” President Trump characterized the trial as an impediment to his potential 2024 presidential campaign.

Simultaneously, as the Fox News article also revealed, a New York State Appeals Court affirmed a ruling to temporarily halt the dissolution of the Trump Organization until after the trial concludes. President Trump hailed the ruling as a victory for his company, claiming businesses are reconsidering their presence in New York due to the trial’s implications.

President Trump took to Truth Social to express his frustration, posting, “Heading to a Witch Hunt with a Crooked Judge and a Bats..t CRAZY (and Racist!), A.G. This case was decided against me before it even started. WE WON AT THE APPELLATE DIVISION, BUT HIGHLY POLITICAL AND DISRESPECTFUL JUDGE ENGORON REFUSES TO HONOR THEIR ORDER!”

The trial, presided over by Judge Arthur Engoron, originates from James’ lawsuit accusing President Trump of inflating his financial statements to deceive banks. The Fox News articles disclosed that President Trump and his family deny any wrongdoing, with the former president asserting that his assets were undervalued. The case, filed under a consumer protection statute denying the right to a jury, has become a focal point of political and legal contention.

The former president’s statements on social media and in court highlight his contention that the trial is a politically motivated attempt to interfere with his campaign. The trial’s outcome and implications for President Trump’s businesses and political future continue to unfold.
