President Trump delivered a special surprise during his Monday morning visit to the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C.
While delivering remarks to attendees, the 47th president revealed that he had donated his family’s Bible, which he used during both of his inaugurations, to the museum.
“For thousands of years, the Bible has shaped civilization, ethics, art, and literature, and it’s brought hope, healing, and transformation to untold millions and millions of lives,” Trump told the crowd.
“The Bible is also an important part of the American story. That’s why I am delighted to announce that just moments ago, I personally delivered the Trump family Bible,” Trump said. He recalled the exact moment his mother gave him the Bible and added, “It will now be displayed right in the heart of our nation’s capital, right here, and it’s an honor, it’s an honor.”
Earlier in his remarks, Trump emphasized the importance of establishing the White House Religious Liberty Commission. He pointed to recent remarks by a longtime Democratic senator: “The need for this commission has never been more clear than it was last week when the ineffectual Senator from Virginia, a man named Tim Kaine, stated that the notion our rights come from our Creator is ‘extremely troubling’ to him… It’s this Declaration of Independence that proclaims we’re endowed by our creator with the right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. The Senator from Virginia should be ashamed of himself.”
Trump then powerfully told attendees, “To have a great nation, you have to have religion. I believe that so strongly. There has to be something after we go through all of this — and that something is God.”
The Trump administration has vigorously defended religious freedom, including the right to pray in schools. On top of his historic museum family Bible donation, the President made another exciting announcement during his remarks. “I am pleased to announce this morning that the Department of Education will soon issue new guidance protecting the right to prayer in our public schools,” which was met with thunderous applause and a standing ovation from attendees.
Trump concluded his remarks with a strong statement: “America has always been a nation that believes in the power of prayer and we will NEVER apologize for our faith. Ever, ever, never, never. We will NEVER surrender our God-given rights. We will defend our liberties, our values, our sovereignty — and we will defend our freedom.”
