Bill Gates recently appeared to change his stance on the nature of the threat posed by climate change. In a blog post on Tuesday, Gates said climate change is not a threat to humanity’s existence, softening the tone of the narrative he has backed for years.
“Although climate change will have serious consequences—particularly for people in the poorest countries—it will not lead to humanity’s demise,” Gates said. “People will be able to live and thrive in most places on Earth for the foreseeable future. Emissions projections have gone down, and with the right policies and investments, innovation will allow us to drive emissions down much further.”
The new stance shared by Gates marks a notable difference from the position he took as recently as four years ago. In a 2021 interview with “CBS Evening News,” Gates characterized the fallout from climate change in stark terms, stating that the death toll from the resulting crisis would be comparable to that of the COVID-19 pandemic. Gates further described the widespread global unrest that would result from climate change if developed countries did not eliminate greenhouse gas emissions.
President Trump responded to Gates’s apparent shift in opinion on Wednesday. In a Truth social post, Trump characterized the recent statements by Gates as an admission that he had been wrong on climate change and declared a victory over those pushing the climate-based policy agenda.
“I (WE!) just won the War on the Climate Change Hoax,” Trump said. “Bill Gates has finally admitted that he was completely WRONG on the issue. It took courage to do so, and for that we are all grateful. MAGA!!”
Conservatives on social media echoed Trump’s comments but were quick to point out the politicization and social damage caused by the climate change agenda.
“It’s almost as if the climate catastrophizing was always a ploy,” said journalist Abigail Shrier. “To drive young people Left, to scare them, to prompt them to ‘demand’ climate action, to dissuade them from starting families and settling into conservative lives.”
“Bill Gates is smart. He knows Clown World has gone on too long,” said Mark Mitchell of Rasmussen Reports. “But will he apologize for his role in brainwashing hundreds of millions of people?”
