President Trump reveals important decision in strikes against Iran

President Trump has provided a major update in ongoing negotiations with Iran. On Thursday, he confirmed that the current pause on strikes against Iranian power plants will be extended by 10 days to allow peace talks to proceed.

“As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 P.M., Eastern Time,” President Trump said. “Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well.”

Special Envoy Steve Witkoff echoed President Trump’s positive characterization of peace talks during a cabinet meeting on Thursday. Witkoff stated the U.S. had presented Iran with a 15-point plan that could serve as the basis for a possible peace deal. “This has resulted in strong and positive messaging and talks,” Witkoff said.

Last week, President Trump threatened to strike Iranian power plants in response to the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which serves as a critically important passageway for the global supply of oil and natural gas.

“If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST!” President Trump said in a Truth Social post on Friday.

Witkoff did not provide details of the plan presented to Iran, but previous reports indicated requirements would include the dismantling of nuclear facilities and a full reopening of the Straight of Hormuz.

On Monday, President Trump implemented a five-day pause on the strikes against Iranian power plants, indicating progress in negotiations. However, U.S. military forces remained in position to carry out strikes if diplomatic efforts fell through.
