President Trump gave thanks to God in his 2025 Thanksgiving proclamation and encouraged Americans to offer a prayer of thanks this year, too.
In his proclamation, President Trump made multiple references to God and explained in the proclamation that President George Washington established this National Day of Thanksgiving as a time to give thanks and “praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.”
He also wrote, “It is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor.”
His proclamation also included the state of the nation, particularly the growth of the local economy.
“As a result, the American economy is roaring back, we are making progress on lowering the cost of living, a new era of peace is sweeping around the world, our sovereignty is being swiftly restored, and the American spirit is coming back greater and more powerful than ever before.”
The numbers back this up, too. According to Trading Economics, the U.S. economy posted its strongest growth since Q3 2023. The economy grew at an annualized rate of 3.8% in Q2 2025. In other sectors, Americans’ wages have grown by nearly $700 and are on track to increase after President Trump’s first year in office.
In President Trump’s second term, Americans have seen the lowest average gas price in more than four years. The White House reports that prices for everyday staples such as eggs, butter, rice, and fresh fruit have also seen declines. Housing costs have also moderated since President Trump took office.
According to Breitbart, President Trump’s proclamation is vastly different from Joe Biden’s, who made no references to God, even though giving thanks is the purpose of the holiday. In addition to praising the Lord, President Trump encourages Americans to do the same.
“NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim Thursday, November 27, 2025, as a National Day of Thanksgiving. I encourage all Americans to gather, in homes and places of worship, to offer a prayer of thanks to God for our many blessings.”
