President Trump recently shared a Fox News video report highlighting Kamala Harris’s past remarks about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The 45th president captioned his Truth Social post with, “Larry Kudlow: ‘She said that she wanted to disband ICE altogether. At one point she called ICE agents Ku Klux Klansmen…she will never get out of the box of the open borders of the Biden administration. She added to all of that because of her statements.’”
In 2018 during a Senate confirmation hearing, then-Senator Kamala Harris attempted to compare ICE to the KKK, asking then-ICE Director nominee Ronald Vitiello, “Are you aware of the perception of many about how the power and discretion at ICE is being used to enforce the laws and do you see any parallels …” before Vitiello interrupted and said, “I do not see any parallels.” He continued, asking Harris, “That puts ICE in the same category as the KKK. Is that what you’re asking me?”
Harris pushed back, asking Vitiello, “Are you aware that there is a perception that ICE is administering its power in a way that is causing fear and intimidation, particularly among immigrants and specifically among immigrants coming from Mexico and Central America?” Vitiello again pushed back on Harris’s suggestion.
During a 2018 MSNBC interview, Harris said, “I think there’s no question that we’ve got to critically reexamine ICE, and its role, and the way that it is being administered, and the work it is doing.”
She told the host, “And we need to probably be thinking about starting from scratch because there’s a lot that is wrong with the way that it is conducting itself.”
In 2019, Harris was named the most liberal lawmaker in the upper chamber by GovTrack, which tracks the voting record of members of Congress. Following Biden’s withdrawal from the race and Harris’s subsequent catapult to the top of the ticket, the organization pulled its rating and claimed that it was not a “useful tool” because it was determined by “limited data available in a single year.”
