President Donald Trump had harsh words for the Iranian regime in new comments, keeping his future plans for military action somewhat ambiguous but still threatening, nonetheless.
“I am considering a massive attack,” the president told Axios. “Bigger than ever before. I am close to making a decision. We are all set for it.”
This news comes amid increasingly escalating tensions in the Middle East as U.S. forces continue to hammer Iran every night. On Wednesday, U.S. Central Command announced the conclusion of a 12th consecutive night of attacks against Iran as it continues efforts to degrade enemy military capabilities.
The president told Axios that although negotiations with Iran are still an option, they are not yet ready to make a final deal, and, he remarked, “They haven’t received enough pain yet.”
It has proven difficult to negotiate with the Iranians. President Trump has previously expressed his frustration with Iranian leadership’s two-faced behavior throughout the talks.
“To me, I think it’s over, I don’t want to deal with them anymore,” he said in early July, regarding the crumbling ceasefire agreement with Iran. “They’re scum.”
He continued, “They’re liars. We make a deal…everyone’s agreed, no nuclear weapon, we make a deal, they go outside, talk to the press, they say, ‘We never even talked about it.’ There’s something wrong with them; they’re cuckoo.”
According to Axios’ report, the president indicated that America’s ally, Israel, “would join” any new operations launched against Iran “in two minutes if I ask them to.”
Unfortunately, another potential problem has arisen in the Middle East as the Iranian-backed Houthi militia group in Yemen attacked two Saudi Arabian ships in the Red Sea this week.
President Trump confirmed this attack in a statement on Thursday and warned that further Houthi attacks in the Red Sea would be considered an act of aggression on Iran’s part, “in that the Houthis are a Surrogate and/or Proxy of Iran, and major military punishment will be inflicted upon Iran and, of course, the Houthis, themselves, who I am very disappointed with in that they have, until now, acted very professionally and smart.”
