President Trump is expected to meet with Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott at the White House on Wednesday.

Although the subject of the meeting has not been officially announced, Abbott shared his positive expectations in a post to X on Tuesday and implied the meeting would be related to immigration and border enforcement.

“Looking forward to meeting with President Trump today,” Abbott said. “Earlier this morning I spoke with Tom Homan about immigration enforcement strategies. Today, and the coming days, should be great for Texas.”

As the border czar of the Trump administration, Tom Homan has taken a zealous approach to fulfilling President Trump’s electoral mandate and implementing an ambitious strategy to secure the southern border.

The border is of particular concern for Abbot as Texas was harshly impacted by the border policies of the Biden administration.

Abbott has previously requested the federal government reimburse the state approximately $11.1 billion for the cost of securing the border in the face of the Biden administration’s failure to do so.

In his efforts to protect the citizens of Texas from the devastating effects of an open border, Abbott described how President Biden had left Texas practically defenseless against an influx of violent criminals, cartels and gang members. In response to the crisis created by the Biden administration, Abbott created Operation Lone Star in 2021, empowering the Texas National Guard and Texas Department of Public Safety to enforce law and order at the border.

Abbott may also expect to discuss plans for future deportations with President Trump. On Sunday night, the administration authorized the Texas National Guard to make immigration arrests, a move which is expected to help bolster the administration’s deportation efforts.
