President Donald Trump reminded supporters on Friday evening at the Lee County GOP Dinner in Florida that he had netted more votes in the Sunshine State in 2020 than Governor Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., accrued in his landslide reelection in 2022.
“In Florida I got 1.2 million more votes than your successful governor’s campaign, you know that,” he said.
He continued, pointing out that after he endorsed DeSantis in his initial run for governor, “it was like a rocket ship,” sending the Florida leader to victory.
In Florida, Trump has garnered 12 of the 20 Florida Republican Delegates, surprising many people who may have believed that the Sunshine State’s lawmakers would break for DeSantis. However, Gov. DeSantis has not yet officially announced a bid for the presidency in 2024.
Since November, Trump’s campaign has gained unstoppable momentum. A recent 2024 Republican Primary poll from Clarity Campaign illustrated the president’s biggest lead yet, with 65 percent of the GOP vote against DeSantis’s 20 percent.
President Trump told attenders of the Lee County dinner that the Democrats in power “are crooked and they are dangerous and they’re so bad for our country.” He added that when it came to RINOs, “We’ve got to get them the hell OUT.”
