President Trump is pushing European nations to take action and bolster the strength of the global oil market. Following the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, he is calling on the United Kingdom to boost its domestic oil production by drilling in the North Sea. In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, Trump emphasized the potential for economic gain if the United Kingdom tapped into available natural resources.

“Europe is desperate for Energy, and yet the United Kingdom refuses to open North Sea Oil, one of the greatest fields in the World. Tragic!!!” President Trump said. “Aberdeen should be booming.”

President Trump announced a U.S. blockade on the strategically important Strait of Hormuz this week after peace talks with Iran failed to come to fruition. Iran had previously closed the Strait following the outbreak of military conflict with the U.S. and Israel.

The blockade included all ships entering or leaving the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump additionally said the U.S. Navy would intercept vessels that had complied with the imposition of a toll by Iran, and would begin the process of seeking and destroying mines set by Iran within the Strait.

The president had previously called on European allies to assist the U.S. in the fight against Iran, particularly by taking action to open the Strait of Hormuz. In his call for drilling in the North Sea, he highlighted the profitability of oil produced from the area and characterized the U.K.’s failure to act as a missed financial opportunity.

“Norway sells its North Sea Oil to the U.K. at double the price. They are making a fortune,” President Trump said. “U.K., which is better situated on the North Sea for purposes of energy than Norway, should, DRILL, BABY, DRILL!!! It is absolutely crazy that they don’t… AND, NO MORE WINDMILLS!”
