President Donald Trump on Thursday called on Senate Republicans to eliminate the filibuster and move quickly to pass the SAVE America Act while restoring funding for the Department of Homeland Security.

In posts on Truth Social, the president argued that Republican lawmakers should take more aggressive action to break the legislative stalemate that has contributed to a prolonged funding lapse affecting DHS operations.

“When is ‘enough, enough’ for our Republican Senators,” he wrote. “There comes a time when you must do what should have been done a long time ago, and something which the Lunatic Democrats will do on day one, if they ever get the chance.

“TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, and get our airports, and everything else, moving again,” he added.

President Trump also said any agreement should include provisions from the SAVE America Act, which includes election-related measures and other policy priorities. The president suggested Democrats would take similar steps if they regained control, urging Republicans to act preemptively.

In a separate post, President Trump criticized Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and predicted Democrats would seek a deal.

“Chuck Schumer, a desperate, crippled politician, who has lost control of the Radical Left Democrats, will make a deal now because he thinks that if he doesn’t, Republicans will TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, something which they should do whether he makes a deal or not!!!” he wrote.

The remarks come as Senate lawmakers remain deadlocked over legislation to reopen the Department of Homeland Security. It remains unclear whether an agreement will be reached before the chamber is scheduled to begin a recess on March 30.

The funding lapse has affected airport operations nationwide, with Transportation Security Administration employees working without pay for more than a month.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., said there was “no point” in continuing negotiations on Democrats’ latest proposal.

Schumer defended his party’s position, calling it a “reasonable, good faith proposal that contains some of the very same asks Democrats have been talking about now for months.”
