President Donald Trump on Sunday criticized D.C. Council member Janeese Lewis George, calling her a “Communist” and warning that his administration would not allow the nation’s capital to reverse what he described as recent gains in public safety if she becomes mayor.
In a Truth Social post, Trump accused Lewis George of supporting policies that he said would weaken law enforcement and expand protections for illegal immigrants.
“Janeese Lewis George, the Communist who is almost certainly going to be elected Mayor of Washington, D.C., has stated that she wants to empty the prisons, make D.C. a Sanctuary City, oppose ICE, welcome Criminal Illegal Aliens back into our beloved Capital, resist Anti-Crime Crackdowns, Defund the Police, continue and expand Cashless Bail, and so many other Capital destroying ‘things,’” he wrote.
“In the end, it will never work out, nor will I let it even have a chance because I have worked too hard to make Washington, D.C., the Envy of the World, with almost No Crime, and a Beautification process that has been second to none. I will meet with Janeese Lewis George, but must forewarn everyone that Washington, D.C., is again a Safe and Prestigious Community,” the president continued.
“Many people, including myself, have worked long and hard to get it there, and we will not let it be destroyed by a Communist adherent who has no intention to, MAKE WASHINGTON GREAT AGAIN!” he concluded.

Lewis George, who represents Ward 4 on the D.C. Council, has supported progressive positions on policing, criminal justice and immigration. She has backed maintaining Washington as a sanctuary jurisdiction, advocated for criminal justice reforms, and called for changes to policing practices.
Crime reduction has been a major focus of President Trump’s second administration. The president has repeatedly argued that the nation’s capital should serve as a model city and has pushed for tougher law enforcement, an expanded federal presence, and continued efforts to beautify Washington.
The president has also emphasized that Congress has constitutional authority over the District of Columbia and has suggested the federal government could intervene if local policies threaten public safety.
