President Trump sent a warning to House Republicans ahead of Wednesday’s vote to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson from his leadership position.
In a Truth Social post, the 45th president began, “I absolutely love Marjorie Taylor Greene. She’s got Spirit, she’s got Fight, and I believe she’ll be around, and on our side, for a long time to come. However, right now, Republicans have to be fighting the Radical Left Democrats, and all the Damage they have done to our Country.”
He continued his cautionary recommendation. He stated, “With a Majority of One, shortly growing to three of four, we’re not in a position of voting on a Motion to Vacate. At some point, we may very well be, but this is not the time.”
President Trump remarked on the favorable polls Republicans have received in recent weeks, writing, “We are leading in the Presidential Polls by a lot, both Nationally and in the Swing States.” He noted that Republicans were “doing well in the Senate,” adding that he believed they would “do well in the House.”
He then issued a dire warning to those in favor of removing Speaker Johnson, writing, “But if we show DISUNITY, which will be portrayed as CHAOS, it will negatively affect everything!”
He commended Speaker Johnson for “trying very hard,” but added, “I also wish certain things were done over the last period of two months, but we will get them done, together.”
Trump concluded his post with, “It is my request that Republicans vote for ‘THE MOTION TO TABLE.’ We WILL WIN BIG – AND IT WILL BE SOON!”
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., has warned for weeks that she would force a vote on the motion to vacate after Johnson worked with the Democrats to pass several pieces of legislation that some Republican hardliners vehemently opposed.
She followed through with her promise and brought the motion to the House floor on May 8. Her effort was quickly shot down after House Republican Majority Leader Steve Scalise called for a motion to table. The motion to table overwhelmingly passed, 359-43, with 11 Republicans voting no.
President Trump reiterated his opposition in a video message on Truth Social. He ended it with a promise, stating, “We will win big, and we will win big soon, but this is not the time to go after everybody. It’s gonna happen very quickly, we’re gonna have tremendous victories, especially when it comes to the presidential race, that’s gonna be a really big one. Every single poll is showing big, big numbers for the Republicans. Thank you very much.”
