President Trump will award Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously to Charlie Kirk

President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he will award the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously to the late Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA.

Kirk, 31, was assassinated on Wednesday while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University. The suspect is still at large, according to RSBN, but the FBI revealed Thursday morning that it has located the weapon – a high-powered rifle – potentially used by the suspected killer, who remains unidentified at the time of this report.

The president announced his decision to award the Medal of Freedom to Kirk – who was a champion of peaceful civic discourse and an outstanding debater of ideas on college campuses across the nation – during remarks at a ceremony at the Pentagon honoring the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks of 2001.

“Charlie was a giant of his generation, a champion of liberty, and an inspiration to millions and millions of people,” he said. “…We miss him greatly, yet I have no doubt Charlie’s voice and the courage he put into the hearts of countless people, especially young people, will live on.”

He added, “I’m pleased to announce that I will soon be awarding Charlie Kirk, posthumously, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.”

The president was visibly solemn during his remarks – a reflection, perhaps, of the deep grief expressed by millions of Americans in the wake of Kirk’s senseless assassination.

Preceding President Trump’s remarks, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth honored Kirk’s dedication to faith and freedom.

Hegseth remarked, “The life, example, and even death of Christ follower and American patriot Charlie Kirk give me hope. Sheer courage, no matter the arena. Charlie, we love you. We know that you have heard the Lord’s words: Well done, good and faithful servant. Full heart, clear eyes. Like those on 9/11, he will never be forgotten.”

The president said details of the ceremony awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom will be forthcoming. “I can only guarantee you one thing – that we will have a very big crowd,” he said.
