President Donald Trump’s approval rating rose to 41 percent over the past week, primarily driven by improved support from Republicans who give him higher marks on handling the cost of living, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll released Monday.

The six-day survey, conducted online, found President Trump’s approval up from 38 percent late last month, his lowest level since returning to the White House in January. He began his second term with a 47 percent rating.

Republicans struggled in some state elections in November as Democrats focused heavily on inflation and household expenses. In response, President Trump has put new emphasis on affordability, rolling back some tariff increases and pledging to address rising food prices.

He has also repeatedly dismissed Democrats’ messaging on inflation as “a hoax.” Trump is scheduled to deliver a speech on affordability and broader economic issues on Tuesday in Pennsylvania, a key battleground where multiple House races will be competitive in 2026.

“Just about everything is down,” President Trump said Wednesday while announcing the rollback of Biden-era fuel efficiency standards.

“We are getting those prices down. They are coming down rapidly,” he said. “You will see those results very soon.”

President Trump’s approval on cost-of-living issues remains among his weakest at 31 percent, though that figure rose from 26 percent in late November. A 10-point increase among Republicans helped lift the number, with 69 percent of Republicans approving of his economic handling. Overall, 85 percent of Republicans said they approved of the president’s job performance, up from 82 percent last month.

Inflation surged under former President Joe Biden and contributed to President Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. Prices have remained elevated under Trump, up 3 percent over the 12 months ending in September, above the long-term average of roughly 2 percent.

The poll also found a slight improvement for President Trump among Hispanic voters, a group that shifted toward him in 2024. Approval among Hispanics rose to 34 percent from 32 percent late last month.

The national survey included responses from 4,434 U.S. adults with a margin of error of two percentage points.
