President Donald Trump has reportedly invited Latin American leaders to a summit in March to discuss China’s encroachment in the region.
According to Breitbart, official Argentine government sources told the newspapers Clarín and La Nación that President Trump’s summit will take place on March 7 in Miami, Florida. The reports reveal that President Trump invited leaders such as Javier Milei of Argentina, Paraguay’s Santiago Peña, Ecuador’s Daniel Noboa, Bolivia’s Rodrigo Paz, Honduras’ President Nasry Asfura, and Paraguay’s Santiago Peña.
Argentine online newspaper Infobae reported that the summit’s objective is to “break Xi Jinping’s plan to control natural resources, food production, and major trade routes in Latin America.”
The newspaper also reported, “From this perspective, the White House will attempt, with its Latin American allies, to block all contracts favorable to China that involve increasing its reserves of critical minerals, strengthening its food security, facilitating its military intelligence capabilities, and developing infrastructure that facilitates its international trade.”
According to Breitbart, reports indicate that this summit is part of President Trump’s “Donroe Doctrine” strategy. One Latin news outlet reported, “Trump’s strategy is to give key importance to the Western Hemisphere in order to slow China’s advance. He has outlined his project in a revamped Monroe Doctrine, which he has renamed ‘Donroe,’ where he places the focus on our region for trade, investment, and access to strategic minerals.”
While Milei has not confirmed whether he is attending the summit, he has pledged an alliance with President Trump’s commitment to building and protecting critical mineral supply chains from China’s advancement at the 2026 Critical Minerals Ministerial. At a gathering hosted by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the Forum on Resource Geostrategic Engagement (FORGE) was launched, set to reshape the global market for critical minerals. During this gathering of over 50 countries, Argentina, Paraguay, and Ecuador signed critical mineral memoranda of understanding with the United States.
With less than four weeks to go until the meeting, Breitbart reports that Argentinian news outlets are reporting that the White House will send additional invitations to other Latin American leaders with whom it has good relations.
