Qatar Airways is preparing to unveil a major aircraft purchase from Boeing while President Donald Trump visits Doha on Wednesday, according to a report from The Hill.
According to the report, the agreement includes 150 aircraft and could expand further through additional options.
President Trump arrived in Qatar from Saudi Arabia on Wednesday for a formal state visit, followed by a state dinner later in the evening. The expected Boeing deal is part of the Trump administration’s “America First” agenda, encouraging foreign investment in American manufacturing.
This development follows Trump’s announcement on Tuesday of a $600 billion investment agreement with Saudi Arabia. The deal includes a $20 billion commitment from Saudi firm DataVolt to develop artificial intelligence data centers and energy infrastructure in the United States.
The package also features a $142 billion defense contract supplying cutting-edge military equipment from numerous American defense companies.
Adding to the controversy, the Qatari government is discussing the gift of a luxury Boeing 747 to the United States for use as a future Air Force One. The gesture has been criticized intensely, though Trump has publicly defended the move.
“The Boeing 747 is being given to the United States Air Force/Department of Defense, NOT TO ME! It is a gift from a Nation, Qatar, that we have successfully defended for many years. It will be used by our Government as a temporary Air Force One, until such time as our new Boeings, which are very late on delivery, arrive,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“Why should our military, and therefore our taxpayers, be forced to pay hundreds of millions of Dollars when they can get it for FREE from a country that wants to reward us for a job well done. This big savings will be spent, instead, to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! Only a FOOL would not accept this gift on behalf of our Country. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he added.
