A new poll released by Rasmussen shows a huge majority of Americans support President Trump’s stance on Iran’s nuclear program.

The poll questioned Likely U.S. Voters on whether they believed Iran should “never be allowed to have a nuclear program.” Among the respondents, 63 percent strongly agreed while only 9 percent disagreed.

The polling results align with the stated policy of the Trump administration to exert maximum pressure on Iran to deter the nation’s development of nuclear weapons. According to a statement issued by the White House, the goal of the Trump administration is to deny development of nuclear weapons and intercontinental ballistic missiles, neutralize Iran’s terrorist network and counter “Iran’s malign influence abroad.”

The White House has also emphasized a stark contrast between its approach and that of the previous administration, stating the “tolerance of Iran’s threats to American citizens and companies ends now.” The administration has authorized the Office of the Attorney General to take all necessary steps to investigate networks or proxy groups inside the United States that may be linked to or sponsored by Iran.

The Rasmussen poll also questioned respondents on the nature of the threat of Iran’s development of a nuclear weapon, asking whether they believed Iran would deploy a nuclear weapon against Israel. A strong majority agreed, with 77 percent of respondents saying they believed Iran would use a nuclear weapon to attack Israel and 50 percent saying they believed this possibility was “very likely.”

The poll comes amid signs that negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program have stalled, with Iranian leaders signaling their intention to reject a proposal by the U.S. Despite any hurdles in the negotiation process, President Trump has maintained a strong stance on his policy towards Iran and expressly stated his administration will not allow the country to enrich uranium in pursuit of developing a nuclear weapon.
