The “Reagan” movie starring Dennis Quaid is returning to theaters for a limited July 4 run and a wider theatrical release later this year as part of celebrations surrounding America’s 250th anniversary.

According to a Deadline report, the film will be shown in special group screenings in more than a dozen cities over the Independence Day weekend before expanding to roughly 600 theaters in September.

The movie premiered in August 2024 and became one of the year’s top audience-rated films, tying with “The Wild Robot” for the highest audience score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter at 98 percent.

The expanded theatrical release will feature an additional 10 minutes of previously unreleased footage, including scenes involving Ronald Reagan and former first lady Nancy Reagan, portrayed by Penelope Ann Miller.

New scenes will also reportedly include moments between Reagan and his father, Jack Reagan.

“One of the hardest things about directing a feature film is leaving behind incredible moments on the cutting room floor,” director Sean McNamara told Deadline. “I’m so happy to have some of my favorite scenes back in the film for audiences to experience them for the first time.”

The film earned more than $30 million worldwide during its initial theatrical run, according to industry box office tracking reports.

The rerelease comes amid broader nationwide events and commemorations tied to the United States’ 250th anniversary in 2026.
