Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., is not backing down on banning members of Congress from stock trading while in office. On Tuesday, she filed a discharge petition to force a vote on her bill to end this practice.

She posted to X, noting that both House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La. and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., have agreed that insider trading is a problem but that “political games” are at play when taking real action on the issue. “We’re tired of the partisan games,” she stated, calling this issue the most bipartisan topic in the video attached to the post. She added, “It’s time that the House of Representatives listens to the American people.”

The Bill in question was introduced in September and bans stock trading and ownership of stocks by not just members of Congress but also their spouses and dependent children.

According to The Hill, the lead sponsors of the legislation, Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, and Rep. Seth Magaziner, D-R.I., released a joint statement, declaring, “The clock is now running. If leadership does not move quickly to put forward a strong ban on congressional stock trading, the members of the body will act.”

Luna is dedicated to ensuring that American leaders do not enrich themselves through insider trading, an issue many Americans agree poses a significant conflict of interest. She spoke out about the necessity of passing her bill in another X post. “Across the country, from every political background, the American people agree on one thing: Members of Congress should not be enriching themselves with insider trading,” she wrote.

She then concluded, “Americans deserve a Congress that works for them, not for special interests or personal portfolios.”
