In a fiery tweet, Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., called out the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Wednesday for his involvement with the now-paused Disinformation Governance Board.
“Even with the Ministry of Truth on hold, we need to haul Mayorkas in front of Congress and begin impeachment proceedings,” Boebert stated. “He isn’t off the hook.”
Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas revealed in early May that the DHS would be creating a Disinformation Governance Board shortly after Tesla and SpaceX billionaire Elon Musk made a successful offer to acquire Twitter for $44 billion.
However, the New York Post reported that Mayorkas said that the board would not monitor or track U.S. citizens as he touted “eminently qualified” Nina Jankowicz as the chief of the newly-minted agency. Unfortunately for Mayorkas, the news broke on Wednesday that Jankowicz had resigned this week amidst the White House’s attempt to backtrack on the Disinformation Governance Board and put it on hold after massive public backlash.
Rep. Boebert also shredded Jankowicz over her previous appointment as chief of the “Ministry of Truth,” based on Jankowicz’s past behavior, including a confusing TikTok video of her singing along to a Mary Poppins song that she reworded to focus on the idea of “fake news.”
“Nina Jankowicz is a perfect example of what third-wave feminism can do to a person,” Boebert posted on Twitter. “Stay ‘safe’ on your journey to power & fame.”
The board is temporarily suspended as it undergoes review, but Rep. Boebert is not backing down from highlighting Mayorkas’ role in promoting the Orwellian arm of the Biden administration. “We can give no reprieve in this fight against wannabe authoritarians,” she concluded.
It is not clear what the future of the Disinformation Governance Board will be, but for now, the Biden administration has swiftly moved to put it on the back burner.
