Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., has announced his candidacy to become the next governor of Florida. This comes just days after earning the endorsement of President Donald Trump.

Donalds posted about the decision on X Tuesday evening with a clip discussing his bid to govern the Sunshine State with Sean Hannity on Fox News.

During the interview, he noted that after much prayer and thought, “I’m here to announce my candidacy to be the next governor of the great state of Florida.”

He described how he came to Florida on a Greyhound bus with only a trunk full of clothing and spent the next 17 years building a family, career and political legacy. “I was able to serve four years in the state legislature. Four years in Congress. And I think now is the time to now take the mantle and lead our state into the future.”

He praised the current Gov. Ron DeSantis, and added, “Now the job is to keep the best state in the country as the best state in the country.”

Byron Donalds currently has a 93 percent score on The New America Freedom Index, which grades members of Congress based on their voting record.

President Trump recently took note of Donalds’ leadership skills and commitment to the America First movement. Last week, RSBN reported that the 47th president encouraged him to run, offering his “Complete and Total Endorsement.”

Trump envisioned a future with Donalds running Florida, stating, “As Governor, Byron would have a BIG Voice, and would work closely with me to advance our America First Agenda. He will fight tirelessly to Secure our Border, Stop Migrant Crime, Strengthen our Military, Protect our Vets, Restore our Economic Power, Advance American Energy DOMINANCE, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment.”
