California Rep. Kevin Kiley (R) has taken the next step forward in requesting congressional oversight related to the shocking discovery of an illegal Chinese bio-lab in Reedley, California.
In August, Rep. Kiley formally joined Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., in calling for an investigation into the lab, which contained almost 1,000 genetically engineered mice infected with Covid, along with parasitic, viral, and bacterial solutions.
The lab was unauthorized and was discovered earlier in 2023. However, the discovery of the lab was not announced until months later.
In a letter addressed to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce chairwoman in D.C., Kiley formally requested an oversight hearing on the lab’s ties to foreign investors.
He commented on X, “I am formally requesting an oversight hearing on the Chinese bioengineering lab operating secretly in California, which was kept from the public for nine months after its discovery…We need answers as to why the Newsom Administration offered $360,000 in funding to the company and told local officials to stay quiet after they discovered the lab.”
As previously reported by RSBN, Gov. Gavin Newson, D-Calif., awarded the Chinese bioengineering company, Prestige Biotech Inc., a six-digit grant in 2019.
According to the Fresno Bee, the Fresno planning department received two proposed operational plans in 2022 for the Chinese-linked company to build a new location near the Fresno Yosemite International Airport.
Via their report:
“Recent controversy over the mysterious operations has left plans for a Fresno return by Universal Meditech Inc. and Prestige Biotech Inc. up in the air. Officials with the city of Fresno want more information before approving occupancy in the space near Fresno Yosemite International Airport.”
Right now, the proposed operational plan has been shelved, but it is unclear if Prestige Biotech Inc. will make a return to the Fresno area in the future.
