Twitter on Sunday morning permanently suspended Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., after she continued to make controversial claims about Covid-19. The anti-free speech social media platform claims that the congresswoman repeatedly violated Covid-19 misinformation rules.
The last tweet Greene posted on her personal Twitter account prior to her ban was a statement about “extremely high amounts of Covid vaccine deaths.” According to the New York Times, Greene had been issued a “five strikes and you’re out” policy, and this tweet was the fifth violation.
In August, Greene reportedly violated the Twitter rules the fourth time by saying that the vaccines were “failing.” Other instances that Greene violated the terms and conditions, according to the New York Times, were when she claimed that Covid-19 was not dangerous, and vaccinations should not be mandated.
The Congresswoman took to Telegram to make a statement that reads:
“Maxine Waters can go to the streets and threaten violence on Twitter, Kamala and Ilhan can bail out Black Lives Matter terrorists on Twitter, CNN and the rest of the Democrat Propaganda Media can spread Russia collusion lies, and just yesterday the Chief spokesman for terrorist IRGC can tweet mourning Soleimani, but I get suspended for tweeting VAERS statistics.”
“Twitter is an enemy to America and can’t handle the truth,” Greene continued. “I stand with the truth and the people. We will overcome!”
Big Tech has been a target for Republicans amid the suspensions of several public figures for not following their guidelines. Most notably, President Donald J. Trump was banned after being wrongfully accused of inciting mob violence after the Jan. 6 protests.
The congresswoman’s official congressional account is still live and able to be used. Twitter has not said whether or not those tweets have been flagged as violations of their guidelines.
