Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., slammed the Biden administration’s creation of a Disinformation Governance Board within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), calling it a “Ministry of Truth” on Twitter.
Rep. Greene also sarcastically asked, “…What’s next? Re-education camps?”
The creation of the board was interestingly timed, announced just days after the Twitter board accepted Musk’s $44 billion bid to acquire the platform. Musk intends to restore free speech on Twitter, calling it the “bedrock” of a functioning democracy.
However, as Twitter heads toward freer waters, a government crackdown on alleged “disinformation” may be imminent. Elon Musk commented on Friday that the creation of the Disinformation Board was “messed up.”
Rep. Greene responded to Musk’s tweet, swiftly pointing out, “If you think that is messed up, wait until you learn about H.R. 350. It creates a prosecution arm in the DOJ to target ‘domestic terrorism’ defined in the code as ‘activities that involve acts dangerous to human life.’ Spreading Covid ‘misinformation’ could be considered ‘dangerous to human life.’”
The congresswoman further expanded on the bill, which she says also applies to discusses of gender. “Gender is covered in the code’s definition of hate crimes,” she added. “So potentially, tweeting, ‘there are only two genders’ could be ‘misinformation’ that could be considered a hate crime.”
Greene is no stranger to controversy. On Thursday, she held a press conference in Washington D.C. to introduce a bill to abolish Section 230, part of the Communications Decency Act. It protects platforms like Facebook and Twitter from liability. RSBN reported that she believes Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter would increase Democrats’ attacks on free speech, which prompted her to introduce the bill last week.
