Rep. Ted Budd, R-N.C., cruised to victory Tuesday night in another win for a Trump-endorsed candidate.
With 99 percent of votes counted, Budd received 58.6 percent of the vote in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate, significantly outpacing any of his Republican opponents.
Budd released a statement after his victory, saying, “North Carolina, none of this would have been possible without your support! I want to thank each and every one of you for your help during this campaign.”
Turning his attention to the upcoming November election, he added, “Now let’s go win the General and send the woke and broke Biden/Beasley agenda home!”
Budd will face the Democrat nominee, former North Carolina state Supreme Court Chief Justice Cheri Beasley in the November midterms. The Senate race in North Carolina is perceived to be a critical one for Republicans to hold the seat currently held by retiring Sen. Richard Burr.
Describing his primary campaign, Budd explained to Fox News, “We’ve stayed focused. We’ve worked hard. Stay humble and go out and ask people for their prayers, their support and their vote.”
Budd also acknowledged the strong support he received following President Donald Trump’s endorsement. Trump’s endorsement has played a key role in dozens of primary races across the nation ahead of the crucial midterm elections. He explained, “I never wavered from his America First Agenda because I know it’s the best thing for the working families of North Carolina.”
The 45th president previously expressed his support for the Senate hopeful, saying, “This man is a great politician but more importantly, he loves the state of North Carolina.”
Budd told Fox News on “The Ingraham Angle” that he does not “think North Carolinians are going to buy that Cheri Beasley is an ‘America first’ Democrat — those don’t actually exist. The Democrats here in North Carolina realize that their party has long since left them.”
He added, “The Republicans need to unite. I think they will… And we can win this for our state and help take back our country.”
