Vice President J.D. Vance and the Second Family will reportedly fly to Salt Lake City, Utah, on Thursday, where they are expected to visit with the family of the late Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, and escort his casket home.
According to Fox News, the vice president will escort Kirk’s casket – and perhaps his family and friends – back to Phoenix, Arizona, aboard Air Force Two, via the outlet’s sources.
Vice President Vance was extremely good friends with Kirk – a friendship dating back to 2017, according to a moving statement written by the VP on Wednesday, just hours after Kirk’s passing was announced.
Vance wrote, “Charlie Kirk was a true friend. The kind of guy you could say something to and know it would always stay with him. I am on more than a few group chats with Charlie and people he introduced me to over the years. We celebrate weddings and babies, bust each other’s chops, and mourn the loss of loved ones. We talk about politics and policy and sports and life. These group chats include people at the very highest level of our government. They trusted him, loved him, and knew he’d always have their backs.”
On Wednesday, Kirk was brutally assassinated by an unidentified shooter. Kirk was debating with college kids at Utah Valley University when he was shot, and his death sent shockwaves not only through the media community but throughout the country.
As of Thursday, a manhunt is still ongoing for Kirk’s assassin. The FBI has asked for help in identifying a “person of interest,” and they are offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information that may lead to this person’s arrest.
