New Jersey Republican gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli is ahead of Democrat Gov. Phil Murphy in the state’s gubernatorial election.
In New Jersey, Ciattarelli is narrowly ahead of Murphy by nearly four points with more than 54 percent of the vote reporting. Joe Biden won New Jersey by nearly 16 points in 2020.
Murphy, the incumbent Democrat governor, is struggling to retain his seat, a trend in line with the history of the state’s elections. A Democrat governor in New Jersey has not won a second consecutive term since Brendan Byrne in 1977.
While the state has yet to report various Democrat strongholds, Ciatarelli’s growing lead over Murphy is something that was believed to be impossible. While pre-election polling indicated that Murphy’s lead over Ciatarelli was shrinking from double digits to less than eight peraccording to the RealClearPolitics average,
RSBN will continue to provide updates regarding New Jersey’s gubernatorial election.
