Republican voters are coming out in droves to cast their votes early for Georgia’s 2022 primary election.

The Peach State’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced the latest record numbers for the third week of early voting on Thursday.

According to a press release issued Friday, more than 700,000 Georgians have participated in early voting through May 19. That is a 180 percent increase from the same point in the 2018 primary election and a 149 percent increase from the 2020 primary election.

As of Thursday, Republican turnout was recorded at 406,388, while Democrat turnout lagged at 299,232.

“The record early voting turnout is a testament to the security of the voting system and the hard work of our county election officials,” Raffensperger said. “As Secretary of State, I promised to strike a strong balance between access and security in our elections, and these numbers demonstrate that I kept that promise and that voters have confidence in Georgia’s elections.”

Early voting numbers signal record-breaking turnout, despite baseless accusations made by Democrat leaders that Georgia’s new voting laws are “voter suppression,” Fox News reported

Nonetheless, Republicans have predicted a massive red wave come midterm elections in Georgia. One of the high-stakes races includes the secretary of state’s election where Raffensperger will face off against Trump-backed candidate Jody Hice. Americans will also be watching the gubernatorial race closely, where former Sen. David Perdue will take on incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp.

The surge in GOP voters visiting the polls in Georgia indicates that Republicans are motivated to make their voices heard in Tuesday’s Republican primaries.
