Republicans demand Garland rescind order directing FBI to investigate parents

19 members of the House Judiciary Committee sent a letter to Biden’s Attorney General on Monday demanding the “full and unequivocal” withdrawal of a memo he penned which directed the FBI to investigate concerned parents as potential domestic terrorists.

The letter, signed by Republican all-stars Reps. Louie Gohmert, Jim Jordan and Matt Gaetz, called Garland’s memo “ill-conceived” and a “chilling” attack on the First Amendment rights of parents who oppose critical race theory being taught in schools.

The congressmen also pointed out that Garland’s memo had been based on a “thinly-sourced” report by the National School Boards Association (NSBA), that no competent or sane AG would have taken seriously, and has since been retracted.

“On behalf of NSBA, we regret and apologize for the letter,” the organization said in the apology. “There was no justification for some of the language included.”

The original letter issued by the NSBA, and quoted by Garland, characterized protests at school board meetings as “acts of malice, violence, and threats against public school officials,” and advised that “the classification of these heinous actions could be the equivalent to a form of domestic terrorism and hate crimes.”

The legislators’ latest call to action comes after no less than 17 state attorneys general signed their own joint statement, condemning the Biden administration for treating parents concerned with critical race theory and out-of-control mask mandates as if they were members of ANTIFA.

“Concerned parents passionate about their kids’ education are not terrorists,” their joint statement reads. “The Biden administration and its special-interest allies need to dial down the rhetoric and respect the rights of parents to be heard.”

Since Merrick Garland released his dystopian memo, backlash ensued which caused his approval rating to drastically fall.
