Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., have kickstarted an official investigation into allegations of potential collusion between Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and the Jan. 6 Committee.
“We have learned that Willis’s office coordinated its investigative actions with the partisan Select Committee,” the official account for the House Judiciary Committee on X alleged.
Rep. Jim Jordan is currently the acting chairman of the Judiciary Committee. Likewise, Rep. Loudermilk is the chairman of the House Subcommittee on Oversight for the Committee on House Administration.
In Rep. Jordan’s letter to DA Willis, he strongly accused her of coordinating with the Jan. 6 Committee in her investigation of the event as she built her case against President Donald Trump in Fulton County.
He wrote:
“On August 24, 2023, we wrote to you requesting production of three categories of documents to advance the Committee’s oversight of politically motivated prosecutions by state and local officials. Your reply letter dated September 7, 2023, failed to adequately address the Committee’s requests and made several baseless excuses for refusing to provide the requested documents.”
Rep. Jordan pointed out that his committee had written to her office yet again in September, but stated that she had responded in October, “rejecting our offer at accommodation and instead resorting to ad hominin attacks on the Committee’s oversight.”
Further, he revealed that his committee had “become aware of cooperation between your office and the partisan January 6 Select Committee.” He stated that they had obtained a letter from 2021 from Willis’s office to then-Chairman of the Jan. 6 Committee Bennie Thompson, D-Miss.
Rep. Jordan continued, “Although it is not clear what records, if any, you obtained from your coordination with the partisan January 6 Select Committee, this new information raises additional questions relevant to the Committee’s oversight of your politically motivated prosecution of a former President of the United States and several former senior federal officials.”
DA Willis has spearheaded the ongoing Georgia case against Trump, which ultimately resulted in an indictment over the summer and the now-infamous mugshot seen around the world.
Jordan explained, “To the extent that your politically motivated prosecutions are now relying in any way on records obtained from the partisan January 6 Select Committee, it only reinforces concerns about your commitment to due process and whether you have fulfilled your obligations to properly disclose this material.”
Rep. Loudermilk also sent a letter to Rep. Thompson, red-flagging the Jan. 6 Committee’s alleged failure to preserve a number of the witness testimony tapes and transcripts. In his letter, he discusses communications between Thompson and Willis, in which she made an “official request” to access Select Committee records in her investigation regarding President Trump.
Rep. Loudermilk stated that the House had no records that showed what the Jan. 6 Committee handed over to Willis. “This is especially concerning given you wrote in a previous letter to me that you did not preserve any video recordings of depositions or transcribed interviews,” he stated.
RSBN previously reported that Rep. Loudermilk had first sounded the alarm on the alleged vanishing of the Jan. 6 deposition tapes in August.
In his letter to Rep. Thompson, Loudermilk asked that all communications between the Jan. 6 Committee and Ms. Willis be handed over, as well as lists and copies of available depositions, interviews, and transcriptions. Rep. Jordan has further requested of Ms. Willis’s office any and all documents and communications between her office and the Jan. 6 Committee between July 2021 and January 2023.
